Recently I watched a very interesting presentation at osc where the presenters discussed their suggestions for the future of the openSUSE brand. I find the colours that they propose to be quite nice and a breath of fresh air because I am not much of a fan of the current colour scheme. I was so interested in their material that I decided to see if the websites they spoke about were available yet and after having no luck on the IRC channel I turned to the forums and made this thread.
Now if you actually watch the video you might see that Geeko drawn by Zvezdana and freak out thinking that SuSE is trying to distance itself from openSUSE because it feels that it is having a negative affect on the brand. This is not the case, please read this mailing list thread for more details on the topic, it has a nice explanation from the presenters themselves. Basically, everything in the presentation is just a suggestion of maybe where the brand should go and was not meant to be taken as a “this is the direction we are heading right now and this will be the future of openSUSE”.
This chameleon was never meant to be a logo. There were questions during the conference in Dubrovnik to create logo from it, which we refused from the very start.

Really though I am glad that this presentation and forum post sparked this discussion because it really is an important part of the distribution. In my personal opinion it would be nice to have the same logo as now but to have some nicer colour schemes for openSUSE related stuff. This goes from the default themes for the DE to marketing material used in conferences and as presentation material (think branded presentation slides, posters, etc). I think that the colours they proposed in the video (which you can view below) are very nice and a step in the right direction. You can see the exact colors that they suggested here and a work in progress KDE theme can be found here.
